Overview of bizSAFE Level 1 Course

The bizSAFE Level 1 course is an essential part of the bizSAFE programme administered by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC). It provides CEOs and top management with a comprehensive understanding of workplace safety and health protocols. The course covers topics such as the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act, subsidiary regulations, risk management, bizSAFE concept, and WSH duties of company directors. By completing the course, participants gain knowledge revolving around their legal obligations under the WSH act, prepare a company WSH policy, and contribute to a safe working environment.

 
 

What is bizSAFE Level 1?

bizSAFE Level 1 is the starting point of the bizSAFE journey, a programme mandated by the WSH Act for all workplaces. It requires top management to participate in a specialised workshop conducted by bizSAFE service providers. This level focuses on risk assessment for work activities and processes, ensuring understanding of legal obligations and compliance with safety regulations. Level 1 certification also grants companies access to bizSAFE communities and associated privileges offered by participating bizSAFE partners.

Why should you get certified for bizSAFE Level 1?

The bizSAFE Level 1 course provides top management with an understanding of the WSH Act and its subsidiary regulations, Risk Management Regulations and Guidelines on Risk Management. The bizSAFE Level 1 course will introduce the concept of bizSAFE and the risks to be addressed, including WSH risks and security risks posed by terror threats.   • Top management, such as company owner, Director, CEO, Managing Director (MD) or General Manager (GM) (top 3 tiers of organisation hierarchy)
  • WSH personnel and anyone interested in developing their company's workplace safety and health capabilities. 

bizSAFE Level 1 Requirements

To qualify for bizSAFE Level 1, your company can apply directly as long as it meets the specific requirements for this level. To apply for bizSAFE Level 1, the company's top management must attend the bizSAFE Level 1 Workshop for CEOs/Top Management conducted by bizSAFE service providers. The required supporting documentation is the Certificate of Attendance for the workshop. And while bizSAFE is a five-step programme, companies have the flexibility to apply for the desired level based on their eligibility criteria.

 Frequently Asked Questions About bizSAFE Level 1

Does bizSAFE Level 1 expire?

The bizSAFE Level 1 certificate for your company remains valid for 6 months from the approval date and cannot be renewed once it expires. It is recommended that companies progress to bizSAFE Level 3 and beyond, which demonstrates compliance with risk assessment requirements and the development of a comprehensive Risk Management implementation plan, including a WSH Policy. In the event of changes in top management, the newly appointed leaders should attend the course or workshop promptly to maintain the company’s bizSAFE status.

How do I renew my bizSAFE Level 1?

bizSAFE Levels 1 and 2 certificates are valid for 6 months and are non-renewable. Companies are encouraged to progress to higher levels by conducting risk assessments and developing a risk management implementation plan. To renew bizSAFE recognition for Level 3 and above, companies should complete the online renewal application via the bizSAFE Enterprise Application Form and submit it along with the necessary documents two months before the expiry date.
